You’ve probably heard the term “phishing” before. It's essentially where you’re tricked into disclosing personal information online, so that someone can steal your money, personal data or identity.
Unfortunately, no company is immune to this happening, and you may receive a scam email that appears to be from us.
What you need to know about scam emails
- They can look genuine at first glance.
- They often encourage you to log into your account.
- The subject line will be attention-grabbing, for example: “Your account has been suspended!” or “Your password has expired!"
- If you do attempt to log in to your account via the link in the email, it’s likely that your details will be recorded and used to commit fraud.
Signs an email could be a scam:
- The email asks you to enter personal information like your account details, username or password.
- There’s a sense of urgency in the email, for example a threat or security risk to your account unless you take immediate action.
- The email isn’t addressed to you personally but instead has a generic greeting like ‘Dear customer’.
- There are spelling mistakes.
- The sender’s email address looks suspicious, or is different to previous messages we’ve sent you.
- You weren’t expecting to hear from us.
If you have even the slightest suspicion about an email, don’t open ANY links or attachments.
If you think your data may have been compromised by a scam email, tell us straight away.
